The Anonymous Book Buyer

Book sales on blurb could afford more transparency

I recently published my first photo book with blurb. I really like their service, it is easy to use and features true print on demand for everyone. These two features along with the good book and photo print quality convinced me particularly to use blurb for photo books.

There is one thing missing though: It is not possible to determine who ordered a photo book. I can imagine that many authors are on blurb who sell tons of books. For such an author it might not be that much of interest to find out who actually bought a book.

In my case however it was merely a gimmick to have the opportunity to sell a photo book to others than the thought to create the next best seller. So, in other words, there are not many sales but for those few I can not determine whether or not I know some of the buyers :-(

blurb support confirmed that this is not possible which is a little strange as technically to buy a book a customer needs to provide his or her name, so it should be on record. Anyway, not a big deal but hopefully blurb will offer that information to authors in future.

I still like the service a lot and will produce more photo books with them.

Google Analytics Recommended

Powerful web site statistics made easy

Just a short blog entry to recommend Google Analytics. I was reminded by an entry at Thomas Hawks blog that I heard about it already a while ago and always wanted to try it.
I finally installed what is needed, a short script call and now it works. Great tool to find out about the activities on your website. And the stat script entry does not influence load times in a noticeable manner.

Give it a try!
